The Triton 03366-1 10 Inch Surge Electric Brake Drum and Hub has a 1,750 lbs capacity per drum. The drum size measures 10" x 2-1/4" and fits Dexter and most 3,500 lb trailer axles. This brake drum and hub was engineered with only the highest quality parts and manufacturing processes. It is one of the reasons that Triton Trailers have such a grand reputation and strong following. It can be used with standard grease or E-Z Lube applications with electric or surge brake applications. The drum assembly fits #84 spindle, L68149 Inner / L44649 Outer Bearings. "Why are my surge brakes locking up when I backup the trailer?"
If you are locking up the surge brakes on your trailer, you have a problem with what we call the free backing valve. When you back up, you compress the surge brake system, and the fluid pressure applies the brakes, not allowing you to backup and/or park. The free backing valve is energized when the vehicle is put in reverse and opens the fluid flow, thus relieving the pressure. No pressure means no brakes to stop you from going backward. The center pole of the 7 round plug is this wire that goes to the tow vehicle's reverse lights. Some vehicle manufactures have the wire active for reverse lights on trailers like campers and toy haulers.
If you have problems, please check the valve, the tow vehicle wiring and the wiring to the free backing valve to troubleshoot what is wrong. Make sure the vehicle's wire is activated and on.
On older trailers with a flat five plug, the 5th wire is for this free backing valve. A pigtail wire should be ran to the reverse lights of the tow vehicle or a converter adapter should be used to go from a flat 5 to a round 7 plug.
