This is a replacement winch for pop up tent campers that use a Goshen Stamping push spring style roof lift system. This is the right hand winch assembly complete with crank handle extension hub. 1200 pound Dutton Lainson Brake winch. The product may be silver or black in color.
Since 1976, Goshen Stamping has made the most popular lift system for Pop Up Tent Campers. The system is easy to install, maintain, and repair if necessary. Only one cable is used to operate the push spring system and it is operated by a Dutton Lainson DLB1200A brake winch.
FAQ
Q: Will this work for my pop up camper lift system?
A: If the camper has a Goshen lift system it will work.
Note: You can tell if it is the Goshen lift system if the camper has the lift winch on the front tongue of the camper with one single cable running underneath to a pulley in the back. If the camper has multiple lift cables it will not work.

Question: What keeps your winch from free spooling when letting the top down?
Answer: The following are the operating instructions that come with this winch
"Wind cable on winch reel by turning the winch handle in clockwise direction. This should produce a loud, sharp, clicking noise. The load will remain in position when the winch handle is released. Wind cable off the winch reel by turning winch handle counterclockwise (no noise will be produced). The load will remain in position when handle is released, but for extra security it is recommended that the handle be turned clockwise until at least 2 clicks are heard. This will add extra tightness to the brake mechanism. Always satisfy yourself that the winch is holding the load before releasing the winch handle."
To answer your question directly, you have to keep your hand on the handle and back it down slowly (do not let go). The load is supposed to remain in position when you release the handle unless you have a worn out winch, but there is still a brake mechanism that you can engage by turning the handle clockwise 2 clicks for extra tightness and piece of mind.
